Update from H.O.P.E. Missions

I’m packed and ready to fly to Haiti. Lord willing, I’ll leave Michigan on Tuesday and arrive Wednesday, May 11 around noon. I’ve been planning and watching and listening and praying, looking for the right time to make a trip.  There will never be a perfect time, we just pray.  It’s in God’s time. I plan to go to Cap Haitian, no other in-country travel on this trip. I have invited several leaders in the churches we serve to come How COVID has affected us

May The Spirit Be With You

Today is May 4th, also known as Star Wars Day!! If you know me, it didn’t take you long to find out I’m a Star Wars nerd. So needless today say, today will be all about Star Wars. A common phrase spoken in almost every Star Wars movie is “May the force be with you”. It was a phrase individuals would say to one another to wish good luck or goodwill. It was often said as they parted ways or in the face of an impending challenge. This force is a key How COVID has affected us
The Bible App from Lifechurch.tv

Apps for Spiritual Growth

Bible app – Without a doubt, my go-to Bible app is the Bible by Life.Church. Bobby Gruenewald and his team had the brilliant idea of putting the Bible out free of charge in a digital format in July 2008. Today the app features 2,062 Bible versions in 1,372 languages including audio Bibles and over 800 Bible plans to encourage daily Bible reading. The Kalkaska Church of Christ uses Events in the Bible app each week to share sermon notes, announcements, and much more. Get How COVID has affected us

Blessing of the Trout Festival

Tonight, as in the past couple of years, I will be offering a prayer of blessing on the Trout Festival. I don’t exactly know what I am supposed to be blessing and maybe I should have asked, but what should I be praying over our community for these few festive days? Or, more broadly, what would or should my prayer and your prayer be for this community God has placed us in? Our prayers ought to always include that those who don’t How COVID has affected us

Warnings

How’s your security? In the last week, I’ve been locked out of my email account and had my debit card # stolen. It’s frustrating! There are safe walls in place for these things but sometimes things fall through the cracks.  My email was frustrating because everywhere I turned to get it back I hit a brick wall. I couldn’t figure out what happened or how to fix it. I wonder if this is how the people in the Bible felt How COVID has affected us

Give Me a Break!

Last week Kalkaska was on spring break. Many took the time to travel and get away from all their busy lives. I felt this would be a great time to talk about ‘REST’. Many times, we allow ourselves to get so “caught up” with work, school, family, friends, and extracurricular activities that we run ourselves right out of energy. This is why it’s so important to take time to rest and recuperate. But… is it right to take time for ourselves? Isn’t that selfish How COVID has affected us

Help! I’m behind in my Bible Reading!

Each year our church encourages everyone to read through the Bible in a year. It requires a lot of discipline and dedication over a very long period of time. Many begin with the intention to read all year long only to find their progress bogged down as they encounter the books of law in the Old Testament. This is unfortunate. And it doesn’t have to be this way. The Bible is unique and unlike any other book. Most books are read How COVID has affected us

An Interpretive Kiss

I have been trying to read a chapter a day of a book that isn’t the Bible. I do my regular Bible reading and studying, but I want to make sure I am reading other literature. I finished two books pretty quick and was feeling pretty well until I picked up the next one on my stack. It’s called, “Fool’s Talk,” by Os Guiness. It’s a book about apologetics or defending the faith, but he writes as an intellectual, which How COVID has affected us
