What a School Year!
Tonight is our last Youth Group meeting before kicking off our Summer schedule! Normally the school year seems to fly right on by, but this school year has felt longer than normal. I think this is due to the topics we’ve focused and worked on. We dove deep this school year. I handed out a letter to our youth parents at the beginning of this school year outlining the tough topics we’d be tackling, with multiple scriptures for each topic. How COVID has affected us
Answering the Call
“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25: 40 In the parable of the Sheep and Goats, Jesus made the point that in serving others, we display to God who we truly are. Loving God and loving others are the two greatest commandments. This love that Jesus is talking about is a love that serves others. But ultimately our service to others shows how much we love God as well. How COVID has affected us
Worth in Jesus. Strength in Numbers.
Throughout this school year, the topic of worth has come up several times. It’s been woven through the majority of my lessons during Wednesday night youth group. Why are our youth struggling with this topic? Honestly, why do we adults struggle with this topic? As Christians, we should know who dictates our worth, and where it comes from. Yet so many struggle to feel like they’re enough. We are inundated with worldly marketing. We’re constantly being told we’re missing the mark. We’re How COVID has affected us
Are Dragons Real?
If you were to ask what my favorite “mythical” animal was, without hesitation, I would say: Dragons. If you were to ask what my favorite book of the Bible was, I would tell you: Job. “Why Job you ask?” I’ll answer that in just a moment. Throughout human history, in almost every society of man, there have been legends and myths. Fairy tales, books, movies, and games have captivated many in regard to dragons. Cultures as diverse as the Chinese, Babylonians, Peruvians, How COVID has affected us
Kalkaska Fellowship of Christian Athletes
I am excited to share something exciting and new that has come to Kalkaska High school! Myself and Mike Ponstein have started an FCA group for high school athletes. FCA stands for Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is an international organization in almost twenty thousand different schools (Middle School through College),and 114 countries. The focus of the organization is to use sports as an avenue to reach athletes and coaches with the gospel of Jesus. We had our first “huddle” this past Tuesday, and How COVID has affected us
This just in: Wise Men Kicked out of Christmas!
I know this is the time for holiday cheer and for great joy to fill our lives. Most of us have already adorned our tree with ornaments and lights, we’ve filled our home with festive decorations, and we’ve no doubt put our nativity scenes in place. One of the things I remember most about Christmas time growing up was having to listen to my mother complain every time we passed by a nativity scene that had the wise men at the How COVID has affected us
The school year has started and fall is here; the end of October is rapidly approaching and we all know what that means…Halloween! Whether you cringe and hide in your basement, or deck your halls with decorations and lights as if it were Christmas time, it’s undeniable that Halloween is a big deal in our culture! I could talk about carving jack-o’-lanterns and how the Holy Spirit is like the candle inside. We are dark and dreary without Him, and when He How COVID has affected us
All it Needs is a Little Miracle-Gro!
We all know what Miracle-Gro is. You use it in your veggie garden, flower garden and even your lawn to get bigger and better plants. Miracle-Gro boasts that if you use it (as Directed) you can grow plants twice as big! Double the yield, that’s quite the improvement! Jesus and the New Testament uses a lot of agricultural analogies. Jesus describes those who believe in him, the gospel, and the kingdom of heaven in many ways. People who believe in him are How COVID has affected us
Parents of Youth
I see youth (and their families) devoting countless hours, days, and seasons to sports and other team activities. There is nothing wrong with that. In fact, I think a ton of positives can come from those sorts of team commitments. BUT…I ask you… are you still prioritizing Jesus (above those commitments) or are you squeezing Him into your crunched schedule? Maybe you’re not spending any time with Him at all. Our relationship with Christ should be above all else. First How COVID has affected us
‘Merica: God’s Country?
July 4th is coming up and we all know what that means, right? American flags will come out of the closet. Churches will gear up for their independence day services. Patriotic songs like “God Bless America” and “This Land is Your Land” will be blasted over the radio. OH, and let’s not forget the most important part…FIREWORKS! In all the hustle and bustle going on during this time of year, we can lose sight of where our true patriotism should lie. Let me How COVID has affected us
