“He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors to teach their children, so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands.” Psalm 78:5-7
These verses teach us the importance of making sure the next generation knows God, His laws, and what He has done. We see in judges the implications and the dangers of not doing so. It is so important for us to make sure we don’t drop the ball when it comes to the next generation. The future generations NEED to know the power of the gospel message of Jesus. And we here at KCC believe that to be true. That is why the leadership of KCC has devoted a whole team to plan out 3 years of implementing strategies to support the next generation in carrying out the great commission. We want to raise up and highlight this crucial part of our church body. I for one am excited to see what God has planned for the next generation at KCC.
Too often children, youth, and young adults are overlooked, silenced, or sidelined. There is wisdom in learning from and leaning on the generations that have come before us, but as Paul told Timothy in 1 Timothy 4:12 “don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young”. We should see them for who they truly are. They are the future ministers, and missionaries, Sunday school teachers, greeters, and volunteers of the church. Remember Timothy was in his teens when he joined Paul during his missionary travels. It is our duty and responsibility as the church to fully integrate these future leaders into our family and get them ready to take the gospel message to the generations that follow.
