This week I am teaching the lesson of Naaman to the kids. This was one of my favorite bible stories growing up. I think because one of the “heroes” in the story was a little girl. She spoke up and helped her master find a cure. She was also able to share her faith in a big way, with someone who was very powerful. |

The servant girl in the story was never named. And maybe that is a lesson in itself. WE don’t need to be the savior…we need to lead people to the Savior. Often we do things for others while seeking credit or recognition. In Matthew 6 it says: “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. I love how the servant girl, who shall remain unnamed, quietly helped Naaman find a cure for his leprosy, but she also helped him to find faith in God. This is such a great reminder of how God can use us…yes, little ole us…for big things. We don’t always know how, or when, or where, but if we are always open to sharing about our God…the One True God, we will be amazed at the opportunities that arise! |
