Is God Calling You?

Has God called you? Maybe you think, “No, God hasn’t called me. God hasn’t called me to become a missionary. Or to give away all my money. Or to move across the country and start a new church.” Does God always call us to do “big” things? Or does he sometimes call us to simple, mundane acts of service? Like visiting a lonely shut-in. Or inviting someone over for dinner? Or attending church every Sunday?  There are several examples in How COVID has affected us

Confusion Illusion

As I write this, a group of 30 or so youth are heading to Cincinnati to visit the Ark and the Creation Museum. My initial prayer was that each of the youth attending (and adults) would have an appreciation for who God is and an even more firm belief that He created everything. There is a lot of confusion in our world about who God is, and whether one being created everything. Not all schools are able to even teach the idea How COVID has affected us

“C’mon Everybody! Let’s NOT do the Twist”

C’mon everybody! Let’s do the Twist! If you are like me, when you hear the beginning of this song, you run for the dance floor. I was listening to this song today and thinking about the lyrics. There aren’t many. “You’re Daddy’s sleeping, and your Momma ain’t around.” “we’re gonna twist and twist and twist till we tear the house down.” It made me start thinking about how people “twist” the Word of God. They twist and twist and twist How COVID has affected us

“It Came to Pass”

Summer is here!! Or is it? Several weeks ago, we had a few days in the 90’s and it felt like summer was FINALLY here. Then, the temperature dropped ,and we had to turn our heat back on. We’ve just come off another spell of 90-degree weather, summer seemingly here once again. But alas, the weather is dipping again! I’m sure we all can agree that summer needs to make up its mind. Let’s be honest, we all want Summer to come and stay! How COVID has affected us

What’s Next?

Do you ever sit around and think about what’s next? I have a list in my head of everything that is next. I have things that I’m preparing for work, Things that need to be done for my family, things that I’m looking forward to with friends, and upcoming obligations. They are all swirling around inside of my head. Sometimes it helps to write them out, sometimes it helps to put them on a physical calendar…but they are still up How COVID has affected us
Open Bible

A Real Page Turner

It is that time of year once again. Later this month our high school seniors will be walking across the stage and receiving their diplomas and heading off into the world. Some will go to work, some will go to college, some will go to the military, and some will go to trade school. Some, I hope not many or any will choose to do nothing. Next chapters are exciting. Sometimes next chapters are stressful and we get a little anxious about the unknown. However, How COVID has affected us

Warnings

How’s your security? In the last week, I’ve been locked out of my email account and had my debit card # stolen. It’s frustrating! There are safe walls in place for these things but sometimes things fall through the cracks.  My email was frustrating because everywhere I turned to get it back I hit a brick wall. I couldn’t figure out what happened or how to fix it. I wonder if this is how the people in the Bible felt How COVID has affected us

Give Me a Break!

Last week Kalkaska was on spring break. Many took the time to travel and get away from all their busy lives. I felt this would be a great time to talk about ‘REST’. Many times, we allow ourselves to get so “caught up” with work, school, family, friends, and extracurricular activities that we run ourselves right out of energy. This is why it’s so important to take time to rest and recuperate. But… is it right to take time for ourselves? Isn’t that selfish How COVID has affected us

Help! I’m behind in my Bible Reading!

Each year our church encourages everyone to read through the Bible in a year. It requires a lot of discipline and dedication over a very long period of time. Many begin with the intention to read all year long only to find their progress bogged down as they encounter the books of law in the Old Testament. This is unfortunate. And it doesn’t have to be this way. The Bible is unique and unlike any other book. Most books are read How COVID has affected us

An Interpretive Kiss

I have been trying to read a chapter a day of a book that isn’t the Bible. I do my regular Bible reading and studying, but I want to make sure I am reading other literature. I finished two books pretty quick and was feeling pretty well until I picked up the next one on my stack. It’s called, “Fool’s Talk,” by Os Guiness. It’s a book about apologetics or defending the faith, but he writes as an intellectual, which How COVID has affected us
