Priorities in life

Priorities

Col 3:2 “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on the earth.” The youth are currently working through a series that focuses on priorities. We’ve been discussing the importance of having our priorities in order and what it means to align our priorities with God’s. It is important to make sure that the things important to God are also important to us. We can get caught up in the business of life, and we can be How COVID has affected us

Salvation Confusion

If you listen to one preacher give an invitation to “invite Jesus into your life,” he might lead you in a prayer. If you listen to another preacher prodding you to become a Christian, he might be telling you to be baptized. Yet another preacher might tell you to “Believe in your heart” and you will be saved.  If these preachers are all Christian, Bible-believing men, then why the confusion? Why are they offering what appears to be conflicting invitations? I’m How COVID has affected us

KCC helps out a Neighbor

Volunteers from the Kalkaska Church of Christ in partnership with Freedom Builders of Traverse City, Michigan participated in a 2:14 project on Thursday, September 7, 2023. The team installed two doors, a window, and stairs into the home. Georgia Beaver provided a delicious lunch for the workers. This is called a 2:14 Project based on the Bible verse in James that says, “What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? How COVID has affected us

Fall into Discipleship

You probably could have guessed this was coming as the subject of my article this week. School just started back last week. Ephraim is having his kickoff tonight for the youth group. Sara is getting ready for WASP and Octane to fire back up. And yes, we have programs for adults, as well. I call it our discipleship rhythm. And, believe it or not, we don’t offer these things just to fill your calendar or because we don’t have anything else to do. I’m not trying How COVID has affected us
God's beauty is all around us

Beauty All Around

The world is FULL of complainers. It is not only annoying but contagious. It is very easy to find things that are “wrong.” I get it. There is a lot wrong in our world. But what if we changed our focus and perspective and started not only looking for the good but pointing it out for others to see and enjoy? I think that is contagious as well!  Psalm 34:8 says, “Taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is How COVID has affected us

Wired Youth – Fall 2023 Launch

Summer is coming to a close and it’s time to get this new school year started! I can hardly believe this will mark the start of my THIRD school year here at KCC!! A ton of prayer and reflection has gone into this past year, and I’m truly excited for what God has in store for this upcoming school year. Right off the bat we’re stepping things up a few notches by launching a new Student Leader initiative at youth group. This initiative will change the How COVID has affected us

Manistee Church of Christ Ordains Elders

On July 23 we sent two of our elders (Rich Hodgman and Scott Kniss) to the Manistee Church of Christ to participate in the ordination of two of their elders (Jim Brand and Will Pegg).  Manistee has been led by these two men for the past few years. As they have taken on the role of preaching and teaching, they thought it appropriate to be placed in that office by their congregation.  Ron Scott, former director of NCCE and interim Senior Minister of How COVID has affected us

The Power of a Good Bug Net…and God’s Word

One of my favorite things to do in the summer is to hike. I’ve been hiking on the North Country Trail, and doing about 50 miles a year on it for the last 3 years. I love the quiet of the woods, and how the canopy of the trees gives relief from the hot sun. There are parts of the trail that go right through cities and parts that are in hot, open meadows. Some of the sections are on super sandy How COVID has affected us

Who is my Neighbor?

Who is My Neighbor?

Who is My Neighbor? I just finished my second year as the High School dean at Wilderness Christian Assembly a couple of weeks ago. It was an exciting week of learning and fun! This year’s camp theme was “Who is My Neighbor” which is taken from the parable of the good Samaritan in Luke chapter 10. We spent the week learning what it truly means to be a good neighbor, who our true neighbors are, and why it is so important to be a good How COVID has affected us
