Confessions of a Planner

Confessions of a Planner

Are you guys planning stuff for summer right now? Fun fact, I start getting Vacation Bible School stuff ready in January! The dust has barely settled on Christmas and I’ve ordered the curriculum! When it shows up in January, It’s like Christmas again! I get to open the tin, sort through the items, and start planning!

I recently learned that I LOVE to plan things. I’m not sure why. I think it’s the anticipation of what is to come – figuring out scenarios and potential problems, and setting a resolution up. Maybe I’m a bit too much of a planner. Sometimes too much planning is NOT a good thing.

I think I like to over-plan because I like to be in control. I like things to go smoothly and for everyone to enjoy themselves, and for the objective to be met. But I am NOT in charge. I am NOT God.

God has shown this to me over and over and over again. HE is in charge. Of course, there needs to be some structure and planning in life. Otherwise, there would be nothing but chaos. But overplanning is trying to control everything and take God’s job.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
