“C’mon Everybody! Let’s NOT do the Twist”

“C’mon Everybody! Let’s NOT do the Twist”

C’mon everybody! Let’s do the Twist! If you are like me, when you hear the beginning of this song, you run for the dance floor. I was listening to this song today and thinking about the lyrics. There aren’t many. “You’re Daddy’s sleeping, and your Momma ain’t around.” “we’re gonna twist and twist and twist till we tear the house down.” It made me start thinking about how people “twist” the Word of God. They twist and twist and twist and try to tear the House of God down.

We are warned about this so many times in the scripture. Acts 20:30 says, And from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them. I think we are all guilty of twisting the truth. Sometimes we do it to justify our actions, sometimes we do it to spare someone’s feelings, but we shouldn’t do it at all. And we certainly shouldn’t twist the Word of God. Again in Revelation 22:18-19 it says, I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.

If this doesn’t terrify you it should. Do not fall for the Twist. In everything that you are told, seek God’s Word. I teach my kids in Children’s Ministry to NEVER take what someone tells you as a fact. Look it up in the Bible. See it and read it for yourself. We are told that the world and false prophets will be preying on us. They will try to sway us. We need to stand firm. And be on the lookout for them.

We are lucky. Unlike the Lyrics the Chubby Checker song, our Daddy isn’t sleeping. He is with us. He is a dad who wants to help us.

Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
