LOVING YOUR SPOUSE

LOVING YOUR SPOUSE

LOVING YOUR SPOUSE LIKE
JESUS LOVES US

I will never pretend to be an expert in anything. I wanted to write today about marriage. I have been married for 23.5 years. That may seem like a drop in the bucket to some of my older friends. And it may seem like an eternity to younger people. The truth is, it’s both! Depending on your perspective. Honestly, sometimes it feels like both to me! On our good days, I can fondly think, I feel like I just started dating this cute boy! On rough days, I feel like we have been going through these same fights for the last 40 years!

A majority of time in marriage consists of compromising. When you compromise, you may feel like you didn’t get what you really wanted out of something. It isn’t always a good feeling. Changing your mindset while compromising is a great way to feel good about it. When you decide that you want to go out of your way to make your beloved happy, that is a great feeling!

When people say marriage is hard work, they aren’t lying! It is easy to forget to put your beloved first. It is easy to think about your needs above theirs. Jesus is the best example of perfect love. He was always about serving and sacrificing for others and for us. Spend some time this week serving someone else. It doesn’t have to be a spouse. It could be a friend or loved one, or someone who just needs a pick-me-up!

1 John 4:7-8. Dear friends, let us love one another because love comes from God. Everyone who loves has become a child of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
