Answering the Call

Answering the Call

“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25: 40

In the parable of the Sheep and Goats, Jesus made the point that in serving others, we display to God who we truly are. Loving God and loving others are the two greatest commandments. This love that Jesus is talking about is a love that serves others. But ultimately our service to others shows how much we love God as well.

This weekend 12 of our youth are stepping up to the challenge of serving others with Molly and I. They will be going without food for thirty hours, for our 30-Hour Famine event with an organization called World Vision! During this event, they will learn a ton about the world hunger crisis, and what it’s like to grow up without the abundance of food we have here in America. This event will help them grow in their understanding of what is going on around the world, it gave them the opportunity to raise funds to directly help the problem, and it will also teach them the spiritual discipline of fasting.

They have answered Jesus’ call to love the least of these, and I couldn’t be more proud of them! Let’s all look for ways to love the “least of these”. We don’t have to go far to find people; people we are called to love and serve in Jesus’ name.
