My Best Friend

My Best Friend

By Sara Blasko, Children’s Ministry Director

One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Romans 12:15. It is one of my favorite verses about friendship. “Rejoice with those rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.” I have some amazing friends that have done all of these things for me this past month. Rejoicing in the victories and mourning when tough stuff is going on.

Over the years I have realized that my friends can be there for fun, be there when I need a counselor, and be there like family.  I love to laugh and I love when I get to laugh with my friends and have fun. It seems like every time I hang out with my friends something new and hilarious happens. It’s good to take a break from being a grown up and just have fun. I recently had a sleepover with my grandma (who is one of my BEST friends) and we laughed and laughed and laughed. It was good for my soul.

There have been many times in my life that I’ve counted on my friends to be my counselor. This is why it’s important to choose your friends wisely. My favorite advice comes from my friends that aren’t afraid to give me tough love. The ones that aren’t afraid to say “I disagree with you.” I go to them because they usually help me work through the tough stuff.

I count on my friends as family, because frankly, that’s what they are. A lot of times my real family is so far away, that there is nothing that they can do to help me physically. They can pray and give advice, but when it comes to actually being here, they aren’t. I have been so blessed with church family and friends that are always willing to help with any needs that I have.

Having amazing friends is great…but if you don’t have the most amazing friend, you are really missing out. I have to be careful to not let my earthly friends take the place of my BEST Friend, JESUS!
