A culinary parable

A Culinary Parable

I am so happy to be able to eat again! My favorite restaurant has finally opened back up! Their menu is new and improved. They have the best cook in the area. My favorite meal, a cheeseburger with lettuce and tomato, steak fries, and coke is once again right down the street! Oh, how I have missed food. In case you are wondering, I stopped eating when the pandemic forced my favorite restaurant to shut its doors. I knew it How COVID has affected us

Springtime Reminders

Springtime brings new growth including tree blossoms, flowers, and grass. God takes out his colored markers and daps color all over His creation. Greens and blues are prominent on the ground and sky. Oranges, yellows, and reds highlight the flowers while whites and pinks set the trees and bushes apart.  Squirrels, chipmunks, birds, and butterflies seem to appear out of nowhere. The Robins are out early pecking in the yard for worms to feed their young ones. Grey and Fox How COVID has affected us

God’s Justice

Our nation has watched the televised trial of Derek Chauvin vs. George Floyd over the past 2 weeks. As I write this, the verdict is about to be read. 12 jurors spent just over 10 hours deciding the outcome. The hope for many is that this will be a guilty verdict on all 3 counts and a step towards justice. Many have said not only is the police officer on trial here, but also the American justice system. Many fear How COVID has affected us

Easter – Resurrection Sunday

Easter is Sunday, April 4. This is the day we set aside to celebrate the resurrection of our leader, Jesus Christ. Why is this holiday important? Why is it significant? And what makes it different than other holidays? The resurrection of Jesus from the grave is the most important event in Christianity. In the garden of Eden man sinned and had been condemned to death. Death had the final say. Death put an end to any life, any goodness, any future How COVID has affected us

Prayer Acronym for Today

It seems daily there is a steady stream of people requesting prayer, and for good reason, our world needs it! Your channels of prayer requests may include Facebook, prayer chains, emails, the Bible app, etc. Those requests each represent a life that is important to God. Be sure to pause whatever you are doing to pray for those you agree to pray for.  How is your prayer life overall? Do you have a set time each day when you stop How COVID has affected us

“Believe!” – Not for the faint of heart

I’ve chosen “The New Inductive Study Bible – Discovering the Truth for Yourself” (NASB) to do my daily Bible reading. It’s a unique way of studying the Bible because before every book, you are given a great deal of information to seek after and observe along with questions to answer. You make many markings in the margins as you read. For example, when you come across a location, you double-underline it with a green pen and then locate it on a map. How COVID has affected us
Community is just a Click Away

Community is Just a Click Away

If you have driven west on M-72 towards Traverse City recently, you may have seen a new billboard just after the Bill Marsh auto dealership. The billboard features a smiling family of 6 sitting at home on their couch with the words, “Community is just a click away.” The only other text on the board is a url, kccwired.com.  Pop-up on kccwired.com Those who visit the website, which is a local church, are greeted with the same photo on the home page How COVID has affected us

Unexpected Gratitude

One of the first lessons a parent will teach their child is to say “Please” and “Thank you.” It’s a core cultural norm and good etiquette. “Thank you” acknowledges the action, thought, or gift. It also shows appreciation for the gift and the giver. Scripture speaks of saying “Thank you” in several verses: “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 “I thank my God every time How COVID has affected us
Truth under Fire

Truth under Fire

The concept of truth has become under attach in recent years. It used to be entertaining when you would watch a sitcom where the whole premise was to spend the half hour covering up a lie. It was comical and harmless. How times have changed. We no longer endure dishonesty in sitcoms alone but we’ve come to accept lies in real life – from friends, family, and even from our leaders.  It’s a sad narrative that when a politician speaks, How COVID has affected us
