An Appalling Story

Luke 10:25-37

1. We are appalled by the Priest because of his job
   1. His job was mediator
   2. He needed to stay clean
   3. His people were relying on him
2. We are appalled by the Levite because of his heritage
   1. Jews help Jews
   2. Levites were chosen by God because of their faithfulness to serve God
3. We are appalled at both because they saw but did not respond
   1. It’s one thing to not look for or see a need
   2. It’s another to blatantly see and avoid
4. We are surprised at the Samaritan because he had an excuse
   1. Enemies
   2. hatred

The lawyer asked, “Who is my neighbor?”  Jesus answered, “You be the neighbor.”
