One of the most beautiful truths found in Scripture is that every person is intentionally created by God. In Psalm 139:14–16, David praises the Lord, saying, “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”These words remind us that our lives are not accidents or afterthoughts. God personally designed each of us with purpose, care, and love.
David goes on to describe how God knew him even before he was born. “My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret” (v. 15). Long before anyone else knew us, God saw us. He was present in the formation of every detail of our lives. The Creator of the universe carefully knit us together and ordained our days before one of them came to be.
In a world that often measures worth by appearance, achievements, or popularity, Psalm 139 points us back to our true value. Our worth is found not in what we do, but in whose we are. We are God’s creation, crafted by His hands and loved by His heart.
These verses also offer comfort during uncertain seasons. When we face challenges, questions about our future, or feelings of inadequacy, we can rest in the knowledge that God knows us completely. He sees our struggles, understands our fears, and has a purpose for every season of our lives.
Our High Schoolers walked through these scriptures last week during summer camp! It was encouraging to watch them grasp that their worth isn’t based on this world’s opinion.
As a church family, may we celebrate the truth that every person is fearfully and wonderfully made. Let us encourage one another, recognizing the unique gifts and calling God has placed in each life. And may we respond like David, with praise and gratitude to the God who knows us, loves us, and continues to guide us every day.
