This Friday night Kalkaska will play its homecoming football game, which means every day leading up to it has been a different ‘spirit week theme’ inside the school. You may ask, “what is spirit week?” Well, it’s a highly anticipated, week-long celebration designed to boost school pride, unity, and student morale. It usually consists of themed dress up days at school, decorated halls, and a pep rally to boost comradery and heighten enthusiasm for the school and football team.

For us who follow Jesus, every week should be a “spirit week.” Like Paul in Romans 1:16, we should not be ashamed of the gospel but should be bold in our faith and our confidence in the team we are on.Hebrews 10:25 calls us to encourage one another because we are on the same team. We are the body of Christ (1 Cor 12) and should uplift one another continually as we are called to a daily mission. That daily mission is to spread the good news about Jesus Christ.
For schools it may be once a year or once a season. But for us who are saved by the blood of Jesus our “spirit week” should be a year-round thing; in season and out of season (2 Timothy 4). We should always be excited about our faith, and doing our best to keep others pumped up as well. So go out there and be ready and hyped up for Jesus! And maybe we’ll see each other at the 7 pm game this Friday!
