Sieze the Time

Sieze the Time

Freya excitedly told me one morning, “I don’t have school today!” I simply told her that was the beauty of school. She gets to take a break during the summer. She loved that!

This exchange highlights a beautiful truth about how God designs our lives. He does not give us just one continuous experience (that would be extremely boring); instead, He guides us through distinct, purposeful seasons.

Ecclesiastes tells us that there is a time for everything. Verse 11 says, “He has made everything beautiful in its time.” So often we can wish away a season of our life in dreams of what’s coming next. It reminds me of the Adam Sandler movie Click. Michael Newman is given a remote control that controls time. He often “fast-forwards” through the boring times in his life until it gets out of his control when the remote learns the circumstances he has skipped and starts to automatically skip them for him. In the end, Michael learns to value every moment with his family. We, too, need to value every moment we have as a gift from God. Even the moments we may want to “wish away.”

In seasons of structure, we can learn to value the growth it brings us. In seasons of fun and freedom, we should enjoy the time we have been given to be with friends and family. In seasons of change, we need to trust that God’s got us and that He is in control. Whatever the season we are in, let us find the beauty that God has made in it.

So as we grab summer by the rays, let us stay focused on the Son. Let us live in this summer season intentionally with his mission on our minds. And let us also fully enjoy this season He has given us!
