3 Men in Chains

3 Men in Chains

Key Scripture: Philemon

Speaker: Andy Bratton

Big Idea: We are free in Christ Jesus, yet we are still living in a world looking for prisoners.  If we forget where our freedom comes from, the enemy may capture us.

Facts:

  • Onesimus was a slave who ran away
  • Onesimus met Paul, who introduced him to Jesus
  • Onesimus is being sent back to his master
  • Paul offers to pay for what was lost

Hidden Truths:

  • Philemon was wealthy
  • Philemon hosted a house church
  • Philemon was from Colossae
  • Onesimus took something from Philemon

Irony:

  • Philemon met Paul, who introduced him to Jesus
  • Philemon is at a crossroads to forgive
  • All 3 main characters were prisoners

Application:

  • Fact: You and I have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory
  • Hidden Truths: You and I have surrendered
  • Irony:  To have life, we must die

Our lives are a story of recognition, repentance, and regeneration.  And sometimes we need reminded of it.
