If you’ve been following along with what our kids are learning, you know things have been getting wild in Children’s Ministry lately! Between staffs turning into snakes and rivers turning into blood, Moses’ story has been full of big moments — but underneath all the drama, there’s a powerful lesson about bravery and trust.
When God called Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, it wasn’t a small task. Pharaoh wasn’t exactly the “sure, whatever you say!” kind of ruler. He had power, pride, and—thanks to his magicians—a few flashy tricks up his sleeve. When Moses threw down his staff and it became a snake, Pharaoh’s magicians did the same thing. (Can you imagine the look on Moses’ face?) But in the end, God’s power proved greater: Moses’ snake swallowed theirs.
It’s a vivid reminder that not everything that looks powerful or spiritual is truly from God. Even today, the world is full of voices that look right, sound wise, or promise happiness—but not all of them point us toward truth. It takes discernment (and sometimes courage) to trust God when others try to copy or twist His ways.
That’s something we want our kids to catch early: that God’s power and truth aren’t about who can put on the best show. They’re about trusting Him, even when the world tries to offer easier or flashier answers.
So, as your kids come home talking about snakes, Pharaoh, and the Nile running red—take a minute to ask them what they think it means to “trust God when things look tricky.” You might be surprised by the wisdom they’ve picked up! Our verse this week is Joshua 1:9 “Be strong and Courageous. Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged. For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go”.
After all, if Moses can stand up to Pharaoh with just a staff and a promise from God, we can face whatever comes our way this week—no snakes required.
