Making Space for Intentional Prayer

Making Space for Intentional Prayer

This past Sunday, Andy challenged us with something so simple, yet so powerful—set an alarm on your phone as a reminder to pray. What a practical way to invite Jesus into the rhythm of our daily lives! One way to make it even more meaningful is to choose a time that connects with Scripture. For example, James 5:16 says, “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” Imagine setting your alarm for 5:16 each day, and when it goes off, you pause to lift up your family, your church, or whatever God places on your heart.

Here are a few other ideas you could try:

  • Psalm 1:2 – “…his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.” → Set an alarm for 1:02.
  • Philippians 4:6 – “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” → Set an alarm for 4:06.
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:17 – “Pray continually.” → Set an alarm for 5:17.
  • Romans 12:12 – “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” → Set an alarm for 12:12.

Prayer doesn’t have to be complicated, but it does need to be intentional. It helps to have accountability—someone to check in with, or even a small group of fellow prayer warriors who commit to praying at the same time each day. Together, we can cultivate a church family where prayer isn’t just something we talk about, but something we live.

As we head into fall, I want to invite you to join me in prayer for our kids’ programs, WASP and Octane, which kick off next week. These ministries are such an important part of raising up the next generation in faith. Please pray for the kids who will walk through our doors, that they would experience the love of Jesus. Pray for the volunteers, that God would give them energy, wisdom, and joy. And pray for families in our community, that they would be drawn to the hope we have in Christ.

Alongside prayer, we know how vital God’s Word is in shaping our lives. Last year, our kids memorized Scripture—and so did many of you! What a blessing it was to watch our church family, young and old, hiding God’s Word in our hearts together. This year we’ll continue that rhythm, beginning with 1 Peter 5:7 – “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

What a timely reminder in the midst of all the chaos in our world right now. My prayer is that this verse will anchor us in God’s care, giving us peace and confidence as we step into this new season together.

So let’s be intentional. Let’s set those alarms, dig into God’s Word, and lift one another up in prayer. I believe that as we do, we’ll see God move powerfully in our lives, in our church, and in our community.
