The Heart of a Disciple

The Heart of a Disciple

Go and make disciples of all nations…

Matthew 28:18

Jesus did not call the church to make Christians – he called His church to make disciples! What does it mean to be a disciple or follower of Jesus Christ? There are many ideas, opinions, and theories yet the best way to understand being a disciple is by understanding and applying what Jesus said.

The Great Commission: Matthew 28:18-20 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Heart for God “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” Proverbs 4:23

Matthew 16:24 Jesus makes the way of discipleship very clear “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.  For whoever what to save his life will lose it but whoever loses his life for me will find it.

John 8:31 Jesus said, “If you hold to my teachings, you are really my disciples.”

John 13:34-35 Jesus said, All men will know that you are my disciples if you love one another.

Luke 14:33 Jesus said, “…anyone who does not give everything he has cannot be my disciple.”

In John 15:8 Jesus said, “that you bear much fruit showing yourselves to be my disciples.”
