Shirley Joyce (Hamer) Farrier received her Heavenly Crown on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at the age of 83. She passed away peacefully at her home of 34 years surrounded by family. Shirley was born on a dairy farm in rural Duplain Colony, near St. Johns, Michigan, to Ray and Roma (Coleman) Hamer on September 20, 1938. She graduated from St. Johns high school in 1957. On August 28, 1960 she married the love of her life, Eugene Farrier. Shirley and Gene are members of the Kalkaska Church of Christ.
Visitation is Sunday, May 5 at 5:00 – 7:00 PM and Monday, May 6 at 11:00 AM.
Service is Monday, May 6 at 12:00 PM.
Lunch Reception is immediately following the service.
Shirley worked for several banks, was a Welcome Wagon Hostess, KHS Library Assistant and finished her career working in the office at Wayne Wire Cloth Products. While her career included many titles, she most enjoyed the titles of wife, mother, grandmother and, her favorite, “GG”. She enjoyed traveling, entertaining, flower gardening, playing board games and card games, and watching her great grand kids play. Shirley was fascinated by the British Monarchy and loved to watch the Kentucky Derby. She was a past member of the Kalkaska Chamber of Commerce, Kalkaska Bridge Club, Kalkaska Academia Club, Red Hats Society, Great Lakes Energy People Fund, Kalkaska Church of Christ Treasurer, and other voluntary organizations. Shirley and Gene were awarded Kalkaska Citizens of the Year in the 1990s.
Shirley is survived by her husband of nearly 62 years, sons Dale (Lisa) and Dean (Connie), both of Kalkaska, MI and Daniel (Shannon) of Tomball, TX. Grandkids Ashley (Darrell), Andrew, Katherine (Jake), Raymond (Kristy), Benjamin, Caleb (Caitlin), Coleman, Clay, James (Erica), Jessica (Troy) and Jenelle (Dustin). Great-grandkids Charlotte, Brexlee, Madeline, Rowen, Rhett, Faith, Mirria, Carter, Karsyn and Lennon.
The family will receive friends at the Kalkaska Church of Christ, 1725 W. Kalkaska Road, Kalkaska, Michigan on Sunday June 5th from 5-7 pm and on Monday June 6th from 11-noon. A memorial service will start at noon with internment following immediately at Evergreen cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Kalkaska Baby Pantry or His House Christian Fellowship.
