Warnings

How’s your security? In the last week, I’ve been locked out of my email account and had my debit card # stolen. It’s frustrating! There are safe walls in place for these things but sometimes things fall through the cracks.  My email was frustrating because everywhere I turned to get it back I hit a brick wall. I couldn’t figure out what happened or how to fix it. I wonder if this is how the people in the Bible felt How COVID has affected us

Give Me a Break!

Last week Kalkaska was on spring break. Many took the time to travel and get away from all their busy lives. I felt this would be a great time to talk about ‘REST’. Many times, we allow ourselves to get so “caught up” with work, school, family, friends, and extracurricular activities that we run ourselves right out of energy. This is why it’s so important to take time to rest and recuperate. But… is it right to take time for ourselves? Isn’t that selfish How COVID has affected us

Help! I’m behind in my Bible Reading!

Each year our church encourages everyone to read through the Bible in a year. It requires a lot of discipline and dedication over a very long period of time. Many begin with the intention to read all year long only to find their progress bogged down as they encounter the books of law in the Old Testament. This is unfortunate. And it doesn’t have to be this way. The Bible is unique and unlike any other book. Most books are read How COVID has affected us

An Interpretive Kiss

I have been trying to read a chapter a day of a book that isn’t the Bible. I do my regular Bible reading and studying, but I want to make sure I am reading other literature. I finished two books pretty quick and was feeling pretty well until I picked up the next one on my stack. It’s called, “Fool’s Talk,” by Os Guiness. It’s a book about apologetics or defending the faith, but he writes as an intellectual, which How COVID has affected us

Distractions

Distractions. How many of you deal with distractions during the day? I have found that I am easily distracted. A radio playing, a conversation in the next room, the television in the background…all of these things can get me off task and distracted.  These may all sound like silly little things that happen throughout our day but distractions can be much bigger than this and can distract or derail us from the most important task that we’ve been given.  Romans How COVID has affected us

The Unluckiest of Heroes

Last week we started a new series in Youth Group called ‘Unknown Heroes of the Bible’. We’re examining some of the lesser-known people who were used by God to do some amazing things. Most of us are familiar with Abraham, Mary, and John, but what about everyone else? These people are in the Bible for a reason; what did they do? How can we learn from their acts? This is one of the many reasons I love God’s word. It’s filled How COVID has affected us

What Are the Odds?

One of my favorite subjects in school was probability and statistics. I loved calculating the odds of rolling dice, flipping a coin, and drawing a playing card! Knowing the odds of an event occurring is helpful and used in many areas of life.  Insurance companies use probability to know how much to charge you and the chances of you getting into an accident based on multiple factors like age, location, and vehicle. Meteorologists use the knowledge to forecast the weather.  Casinos use probability How COVID has affected us
